Empowering Lives Through Transformative Mental Health Programs

Empowering Lives Through Transformative Mental Health Programs

At the Family Service Association of Greater Elgin, we’re passionate about equipping individuals and communities with practical tools for mental wellness.

Our 2024 partnerships and programs have sparked meaningful change, empowering participants with skills to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and clarity. Here’s how our Think & Behave Better and Feeling & Being Better series made a lasting impact.

Building Skills, Building Teams

In March 2024, we had the privilege of training 15 staff members at FSA on our Think & Behave Better curriculum. This evidence-based program, rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), equips participants with tools to manage emotions and behaviors effectively. Staff not only learned how to guide clients through the curriculum but also experienced a session themselves, fostering team unity and deeper understanding. The result? A stronger, more connected team ready to support their community.

Transforming Young Lives

From May to December 2024, we brought our programs directly to teens, delivering life-changing skills through small, supportive group settings.

May 2024: Think & Behave Better for Teens

We worked with a group of six clients aged 13–17, introducing them to CBT-based techniques to enhance emotional resilience. The results were inspiring:

  • 100% understood the core goal of CBT.
  • 100% learned specific techniques to respond to emotional triggers.
  • 100% found the tools valuable and would recommend the program to others.

One participant shared, “I love this group! It was so nice :) Thank you so much! I won’t forget this group!” Their enthusiasm reflects the safe, welcoming space we strive to create.

November–December 2024: Feeling & Being Better for Teens

Our Feeling & Being Better series reached four clients aged 13–14, focusing on practical skills for emotional well-being. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive:

  • 100% of participants rated the program a 9/10 for being simple to learn and apply.

These outcomes highlight the power of accessible, engaging mental health education tailored to young people.

Why It Matters

Our programs are more than workshops—they’re a gateway to empowerment. By teaching practical, evidence-based skills, we help teens and professionals alike build resilience, manage challenges, and foster stronger connections. Whether it’s a staff member gaining confidence to support clients or a teen discovering tools to navigate life, every step forward counts.
